Your new role

This role offers the opportunity to work on a range of rail-based projects across the UK, contributing to ecological assessments, habitat management, and biodiversity enhancement.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality ecological services, supporting planning applications, and ensuringpliance with environmental legislation. You will work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote sustainable development and conservation best practices.
  • Conduct ecological surveys including Phase 1 habitat surveys, protected species surveys, and habitat condition assessments.
  • Prepare ecological reports, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies to support planning and development projects.
  • Advise clients and project teams on ecological constraints, opportunities, and legislative requirements.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of habitat creation, restoration, and management plans.
  • Liaise with statutory bodies, local authorities, and conservation organisations.
  • Contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
  • Support junior staff and contribute to training and mentoring within the team.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ecological legislation, policy, and best practice guidance.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are upheld during fieldwork and project delivery.
  • What you'll need to succeed
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) at Associate level (ACIEEM) minimum, or able to acheive in the next 6 months.
  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in ecological surveying and reporting.
  • Good working knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
  • Strong written and verbalmunication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
  • Protected species licences (, bat, great crested newt) are desirable.
  • Experience with GIS mapping and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Biodiversity Net Gain metrics and tools.
