Job SummaryReporting directly to the Welding Engineer Supervisor, IE seeks a Certified Welding Inspector to be based at the Price, Utah facility. The role involves inspecting, documenting, and ensuring 100% compliance with IE weld standards, AWS/ASME codes, and customer specifications for both structural and pipe fabrication projects.

Inspects and documents welded projects, records findings, and ensures 100% adherence to IE weld standards, AWS/ASME codes, and customer specifications.
Work ScheduleMonday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (40‑hour week; additional time as required).

Essential Functions Quality Control- Provide oversight and in‑process inspection of all welding processes.
- Support/inspect additional departments such as paint or final assemblies.
- Review customer specifications against project drawings to ensure all weld callouts meet spec and codes.
- Perform critical inspection procedures, including setup of new or unique equipment and interpretation of test data (hardness testing, fillet gages, mill thickness, etc.).
- Collaborate with mechanical/design engineering and project managers to ensure weldability of assemblies and structures.
- Maintain documents, processes, and procedures that comply with quality requirements and IE inspection records.
- Meet with internal and external customers to explain and demonstrate welding processes and procedures.
- Conduct routine inspections to verify worker compliance with welded quality procedures, restrictions, and standards; test welds for national code compliance; test welding personnel for certification.
- Receive and maintain all material inspection reports and related documents.
- Review customer specifications against IE welding procedure specifications (WPS) to ensure compliance.
- Organize and maintain records of all heat/lot numbers on piping and related material; create weld maps when required.
- Document all findings using the inspection record and report back with a site audit report for each job.
- Conduct final traveler review for fabrication, hydro testing, and any other area as needed.
- Work closely with manufacturing and welding engineering to ensure documentation completeness.
- Coordinate with the VP of Quality and Weld Engineer to identify pipe process improvement opportunities.
- Maintain documentation of compliance with applicable ASME codes and regulations.
- Follow company safety policies and promote safety in all work areas.
- Notify supervisor of any safety opportunities or concerns.
- Maintain regular and consistent job attendance; arrive on time.
- Follow and comply with IE core values.
- Associate’s degree in Welding Technology or related technical field plus two years of welding experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of welding processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of ASME, AWS, and other applicable codes and welding standards.
- Excellent written and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and understand building prints, layouts, and welding specifications to measure against quality standards and final product completion.
- Very observant, with strong attention to detail.
- Knowledgeable in using technical equipment for welding testing procedures and quality inspections.
- Excellent customer/interpersonal skills with ability to resolve welding quality issues.
- Detail‑oriented record keeping.
- Good computer skills for data recording and tracking; strong math skills for performing welding tests and measurements.
- Understanding of applicable safety regulations (OSHA) procedures and operations.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize issues requiring action, take initiative with minimal guidance, and work with minimal supervision.
Must be willing to travel up to 5% of the time.
