Program Head - Practical Nursing (Prince Albert)

Program Head provides academic and first point-of-contact leadership for students, faculty, and staff in the Practical Nursing program.
General Accountability – Provides academic leadership, supports student success, coordinates with academic chair and program faculty.
Nature & Scope – Based in Prince Albert, reports to academic chair, may travel for program and administrative responsibilities.
The role includes curriculum development, program monitoring, student advising, recruitment, staff recruitment, coaching, and mentorship. The program head collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, manages program resources, and participates in strategic planning.
Responsibilities- Monitor delivery of quality programming and respond to student, industry, and public needs.
- Support academic activity including annual and comprehensive program reviews, curriculum development, instructional methods, and academic standards.
- Ensure student-centered program operations with focus on service excellence.
- Implement academic policies, prepare reports, and participate in Program Advisory Committees.
- Coordinate program accreditation and manage stakeholder groups.
- Assess transfer credit and Prior Learning Assessment Reviews.
- Facilitate quality assurance for extension and brokered programs.
- Represent program on committees.
- Create inclusive learning environment supporting Indigenous success, international/newcomer, disability, and other supports.
- Collaborate on student recruitment strategies, develop enrolment strategy, and maximize student intake.
- Manage daily operations of program activities, monitor attrition, implement student success measures.
- Collaborate with faculty to refer students to supports, mediate issues, and promote teamwork.
- Contribute to employee life cycle activities.
- Assign workload and schedule faculty and staff.
- Act as first point of contact for day‑to‑day operations and communicate people management issues.
- Cultivate inclusive work and learning environment.
- Represent program/school on internal committees and teams.
- Build and maintain relationships across academic and administrative divisions and with students.
- Develop/maintain relationships with external agencies, educational and government organizations, colleges and universities.
- Represent program/school and Saskatchewan Polytechnic at relevant business, industry, community and sector functions.
- Manage program resources day‑to‑day to ensure delivery effectiveness.
- Contribute to budget development and monitor expenditures.
- Implement innovative solutions to resource challenges and identify funding opportunities.
- Identify program development resource needs.
- Contribute program perspective to strategic planning and implement changes aligned with initiatives.
- Identify program priorities and future trends.
Skills and Abilities
(QSA)
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or a related field.
- Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan.
- Two years recent and relevant clinical/teaching experience in medical‑surgical and pediatric‑obstetrical nursing.
- Current TLR certificate at the participant level.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, organizational, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.
- Experience managing budgets and allocating resources within guidelines.
- Ability to travel.
