About

The Role
The Early Learning Educator supports the holistic development of young children through culturally responsive, play‑based learning rooted in Metis culture, language, and values. The educator creates a nurturing, inclusive environment that promotes children’s physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cognitive growth while fostering a strong sense of identity and belonging within the Metis community.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate, play‑based learning experiences that align with Metis views, the Early Learning Framework, and each child’s individual learning journey, ensuring inclusion, equity, and respect for diversity.

Integrate Metis culture into daily programming through Michif language, traditional teachings, stories, music, land‑based learning, and culturally relevant materials, and collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, families, and community partners to strengthen cultural connections.

Observe, document, and assess children’s learning to inform curriculum planning, share learning stories with families, and collaborate with other professionals (e.g., Speech Pathologists, Teachers, Occupational Therapists, Behavioral Consultants) to support holistic development.

Maintain a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment that reflects Metis identity and meets all center policies, licensing requirements, and health and safety standards while modelling respectful relationships, positive communication, and cultural humility.

Demonstrate professionalism and ongoing growth by upholding organizational expectations (punctuality, conduct, dress), complying with all policies and procedures, and participating in continuous professional learning, including Michif language revitalization and early childhood education practices.

Qualifications

Strong understanding of early childhood development and culturally responsive pedagogy.
