This position is to instruct a pilot cohort of Indigenous female Industrial Mechanics pre-employment certificate students on the Prince Albert Campus. In addition to holding an Industrial Mechanics journeyperson Red Seal, the successful applicant must be able to serve as a role model and provide mentorship, instructing Indigenous women entering the Industrial Mechanics/Millwright trade.

Job Duties

• Qualified applicants will be required to teach in the traditional areas of Industrial Mechanics, as well as program specialty areas based on current program needs.
• Ability to teach in other program areas is an asset.
• Manage his/her classroom/lab/activities to ensure an optimum learning environment for students.
• Follow any academic regulations and/or policies adopted by Sask Polytech and/or Saskatoon Campus.
• Accommodate students with special learning needs.
• Pursue professional development opportunities to keep current with industry and educational requirements.
• Practice good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Work cooperatively with program heads and colleagues in an interdependent “team” environment.
• Prepare and use appropriate delivery methods for instructing courses as assigned.
• Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress.
• Make necessary curriculum adjustments to course content.
• Attend staff, program and division meetings.
• Assist in/arrange for equipment maintenance within the program.
• Assist in conducting and maintaining inventory, and in ordering supplies, equipment and books.

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate in the Industrial Mechanic trade.
• Two years’ recent/relevant post-Journeyperson experience in the Industrial Mechanic trade.
• Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and the ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
• Effective communication skills (written and oral).
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Effective instructional skills.
• Demonstrates valuing diversity.
• Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
• Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and the ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
