Primary Purpose
The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse who provides clinical services to students and their dependents. As a valued member of the interdisciplinary team of the Student Wellness Centre (SWC) this Nurse Practitioner, based in Prince Albert, facilitates ongoing communication and collaborates with team members in PA and Saskatoon to ensure that services are continuously evaluated and improved.

As a valued member of the interdisciplinary team of the Student Wellness Centre (SWC) this Nurse Practitioner, based in Prince Albert, facilitates ongoing communication and collaborates with team members in PA and Saskatoon to ensure that services are continuously evaluated and improved.
Nature of WorkThe Nurse Practitioner reports to the and collaborates with SWC team members of each program/service area. The Nurse Practitioner provides primary health care services to USask students and their dependents. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to exercise initiative in all work activities independently. Collaboration with other health team members is ongoing and essential as a member of a primary health care team.
AccountabilitiesProfessional Responsibilities:
- Assess, diagnose and treat health problems of students and their dependents
- Provide health care management, pharmaco-therapeutics and therapeutic interventions
- Comply with approved medical records processes and documentation standards on our Electronic Medical Record (Med Access)
- Comply with the terms of the Confidentiality Agreement and handle confidential information in a manner which will support patient and employee privacy
- Limit disability by providing prompt treatment
- Provide health promotion and illness/injury prevention and community development
- Perform outcome evaluations on the effectiveness of the intervention with the client
- An expressed commitment and experience with equity-deserving student populations. Proven sensibility and appreciation of the role that gender, race, disability, gender identity, sexuality, social background play in the experience of health and wellbeing
- Commitment to serving the needs of a diverse student population. Demonstrated ability to provide services that are responsive and sensitive to the needs of specific populations including Indigenous students, international students, graduate students, racialized students, students with disabilities and LGBTQ2S+ students
- Accept responsibility for own practice, to act professionally and maintain level of competence
- Maintain current registration with the Saskatchewan registered Nurses Association and meet Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner professional responsibilities and accountabilities
- Maintain requirements for Nurse Practitioner continuing competencies
- Collaborate with the College of Nursing serving as a preceptor for nursing students
- Collaborate with the Health Education Coordinators in developing and implementing educational programs that address critical care issues
- Organize and participate in staff in-service and education updates
- Practice within a scope of practice specific to student health issues
- Maintain patient safety and patient confidentiality
- Practice competently to ensure health outcomes.
- Incorporate professional, legal and ethical decision-making guidelines into the RN NP practice
- Comply with University and SWC Policy and Procedures
- Registered Nurse designation from a recognized training institution
- Current registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nursing Association and licensed as a Nurse Practitioner
- Post RN advanced clinical nursing diploma or equivalent
- Current CPR certification
- Minimum 5 years work experience in a primary care setting
- Ability to work in collaboration with other health professionals and lead multi-disciplinary teams
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to work on own initiative
