Library Assistant – Circulation Assistant/Shelver
Job Title:
Library Assistant – Circulation Assistant/Shelver. This position supports the Learning Commons and Academic Success Centre by managing library circulation, shelving, and user assistance.

Job Summary:
The Library Assistant will perform key circulation duties, maintain collections, manage borrower records, and support library operations.
Responsibilities:
- Check library materials in/out.
- Shelve and maintain library collections, including shelf reading, inventory, and general maintenance.
- Register borrowers – issue cards and update borrower records.
- Collect payments for lost/damaged items, book sales, computer time, overdue fines, printing, and FAX.
- Answer basic reference questions at the circulation desk and help users locate materials.
- Maintain computer labs and public stations (replace toner/paper, assist with basic questions).
- Handle room booking requests.
- Operate the Learning Commons: open/close duties, set alarms, admit patrons, control all systems, and clear facilities at close.
- Collaborate with the team to support the college’s vision, mission, and learner needs.
- Promote a positive work atmosphere through professional interaction.
- Participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of relevant library, office, or customer service experience (library experience preferred).
- Keyboarding proficiency (minimum 40 wpm, 90% accuracy preferred).
- Basic filing and office skills.
- Effective public and employee interaction skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Computer experience.
Band: C
Salary: $27.65 per hour
Location:
Prince George, BC, Canada
Typical work season:
September to April; evening and weekend shifts may be required.
Hours per week: 12
Start Date:
September 8 2026;
End Date:
April 23 2027.
