Construction Officer – Prince George Stations

Pay Rate: $75.61/hour, depending on experience

Contract Length: 5 Months

Location: Prince George, British Columbia. Open to candidates located in Northern and Southern Interior of BC

Description

The Construction Officer in this role will serve as the primary site coordinator and inspector for diverse civil, electrical, and mechanical projects. This role is critical in ensuring that materials, workmanship, and project progress align with our client’s rigorous safety, cost, and quality standards. You will manage projects ranging from new substation builds to transmission line upgrades and retrofitting across the Prince George and Terrace corridors.

The current portfolio is throughout the Northern and Southern Interior of BC. With projects located in various locations such as Prince George, Terrace corridor. Preference will be to candidates living in Prince George, Smithers, Terrace and Kitimat. Project types range from new, upgrading and retrofitting of substations, capacitor stations, new and upgrading/improving the transmission line infrastructure throughout the province.

Responsibilities
  • Site Inspection & Coordination:
    Inspect complex construction work on substations, transmission lines, and hydroelectric equipment. Ensure all work complies with building codes, safety regulations, and project deadlines.
  • Safety Leadership:
    Prioritize safe work execution by performing regular Safe Work Observations. Utilize deep knowledge of OSH Standards and Work Safe BC regulations to maintain a zero-incident environment.
  • Technical Support:
    Conduct or coordinate site testing, surveying, and estimating. Interpret engineering drawings to troubleshoot technical issues and ensure seamless project progression.
  • Contract Administration:
    Collaborate with internal construction services and external contractors to monitor materials and costs, ensuring project deliverables meet expectations.
  • Subject Matter Expertise:
    Act as a technical advisor on-site, providing guidance on complex construction methods and representing BC Hydro professionally in all third-party inquiries.
Qualifications
  • 7 years of related construction work experience in Civil & Electrical Utility Infrastructure (Substations, Capacitor Stations, and Transmission Lines)
  • Experience with brownfield/retrofit projects (working within energized environments).
  • Familiarity with high-voltage infrastructure or large-scale industrial civil works.
  • Knowledge of foundations, steel assembly, or electrical apparatus installation.
  • Safety Leadership & Compliance (Site Coordination)
  • Contract Management & Documentation Deliverables
  • Regional Adaptability & Rotation Readiness - Preference for candidates in the Prince George/Terrace corridor
  • Previous experience working 14-7 or 10-4 FIFO/LOA rotations
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Additional experience in Contract Management is an asset
  • Education and Certifications
  • Diploma of Technology:
    Completion of a National Diploma in Civil & Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Technology; OR Trades

    Qualification:

    Completion of a relevant trade’s apprenticeship.
Additional Information

Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.

Every contractor must supply their own Smart Phone. This is needed to gain access to the organization’s network.
