Position: Registered Nurse (rn), Clinical Lead, Student Practice Education

Position Summary

In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, and as directed by the Regional Manager Student Practice Education, this position provides clinical mentorship and education support within the Student Practice Education portfolio throughout Northern Health, which includes student placements, the Employed Student Nurse (ESNs) program, the New Graduate Transition program, and Specialty Education. In collaboration with the Education & Development team, Clinical Nurse Educators (CNEs) and operational leadership, the Clinical Lead Student Practice Education is responsible for leading, planning, developing, and facilitating organization-wide education and support for NH staff and supporting onboarding/orientation programs for new graduates, practicum students, ESNs, new graduates, and specialty education learners.

The position serves as a clinical resource for student practice and coordinates in‑service programs aimed to meet the unique education needs of new graduates, students, and ESNs.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work:
Monday to Friday, Days, 08:00 to 16:00

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum four years' clinical experience.
  • Formalized education and minimum two years' formal experience in adult teaching/learning and curriculum development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Teaching:
    Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well‑being as well as program highlights.
  • Knowledge Integration:
    Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research‑based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and other health‑related disciplines and the humanities, arts, and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
  • Communication – Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using oral, written and computer communication.
  • Critical Thinking – Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem‑solve effectively.
  • Management:
    Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, supervising responsibilities of others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
  • Human Caring & Relationship‑Centered practice:
    Ability to promote client‑focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Leadership:
    Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk‑taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.
  • Assessment & Intervention:
    Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing education assessments and provide education through various learning methods.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including proven ability to utilize computer technology.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
