Basic Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate and be a member in good standing in the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch AND possesses one or more of the following:

A District Resource Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has a valid teaching certificate with a Master's degree or Diploma in Education of the deaf and hard of hearing. They also are eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Educators for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CAEDHH).

• Demonstrated successful experience as a School Based Resource teacher/learning assistant

Based on a teacher’s skills, abilities, professional development and overall classroom teaching experience, that the teacher will be able to perform the duties in a successful manner in collaboration with other professional staff.

• Be the case manager
• Willing to work with students who are hearing impaired
• Commitment to working as a member of a SBT
• Willing to lead CBIEP meetings
• Willing to support District initiatives and vision of inclusive education
• Use of personal vehicle required for travel to schools

• Interpretation & educational implications of audiological reports
• Support surrounding procurement, care, use & performance of assistive listening devices
• Participation in meetings as member of student's educational team
• Provision of workshops regarding implications of hearing loss and needs of deaf or hard of hearing individuals
• Liaise with school & home to facilitate effective ongoing communication
• Contact parents/guardians as necessary regarding areas of concern relating to student's social, emotional, academic, vocational or audiological needs
• Assistance in arranging medical/audiological referrals/appointments
• Assessment/evaluation of a student's present level of functioning
• Support & collaborative development of programs and Competency-Based Individualized Education Plan (CBIEP) for students with a variety of exceptional needs
• Direct instruction, either within the classroom, in a small group, or on an individual basis, focusing on academic/social/emotional areas of need, use and care of assistive listening devices, speech/language development
• Work experience consultation & support (as appropriate)
• Opportunities to meet/communicate with other deaf & hard of hearing students
• Leading teams, liaise with outside agencies & maintain extensive records of meetings
• Ability to support classroom teachers to integrate technology to provide access to curriculum for all students
• Training and experience in administering curriculum-based assessment and standardized assessments
• Writing summaries of assessment results
• Facilitating communication & coordinating services/resources through a school-based and working team model
• Maintaining accurate & current records of all students receiving support services according to Ministry and District guidelines
• Offering instructional support in or out of the classroom using resources appropriate for individual student needs and in accordance with Ministry expectations
• Tracking students with special needs year-to-year, ensuring all students are accurately categorized according to Ministry and District guidelines
• Following all policies, procedures & guidelines for Inclusive Education services as defined in the Ministry of Education Manual of Diverse Education Services
• Willing to support whole-school environmental initiatives
• Commitment to the school-wide Positive Behaviour Support program as a form of addressing behaviour in the classroom

The DRTHH assists the District Principal of Inclusive Education in providing services to students and staff in the regular classroom as well as alternate environments and must be able to work in a collaborative and consultative manner with classroom teachers, principals, the school-based team, special education assistants and others.

The annual salary for the full-time Teacher ranges from $64,901 to $116,190 with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. We also offer a competitive benefits package and pension.
