Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Learning Commons & Academic Success Centre, the Student Success & Accessibility Facilitator supports students through an approach grounded in Indigenous values of relationship, belonging, and seeing each person as a whole and not just the presenting difficulties. This service model is not designed exclusively for Indigenous students; it is a way of serving everyone that also advances the College’s Indigenization commitments in everyday practice.

The role has two interconnected areas of work: coordinating academic support services and supporting the day-to-day administrative processes of accessibility services. The Facilitator is a trusted connector, the consistent, relational presence who meets students where they are, links them to the right support, while maintaining an active presence in the Aboriginal Resource Centre ( ARC ). The Facilitator will also refer students to higher levels supports where and when required.

Specific Duties Academic Support Coordination
  • Maintains an active pool of trained Peer Success Assistants across a range of subjects and student needs. Participates in recruitment and selection each term, including screening applications and taking part in interviews; the Director makes hiring decisions. Orients new Peer Success Assistants and prepares term schedules for the Director’s approval.
  • Coordinates peer certification process which includes: organizing and tracking training completion and supervised tutoring hours for all active Peer Success Assistants; and maintains current working knowledge of CRLA certification requirements so day-to-day practice stays aligned with the standards and curriculum set by the Director.
  • Delivers orientation sessions for Peer Success Assistants on scheduling systems, service records, referral pathways, and privacy practice, using session plans prepared by the Director.
  • Conducts developmental observations of Peer Success Assistant sessions and provides informal coaching feedback.
  • Manages student intake for peer support services: maintains the scheduling system, matches students with appropriate peers, keeps accurate records of sessions and service activity, and compiles usage statistics for reporting to the Director.
  • Promotes Learning Commons and Academic Success Centre services across CNC through digital, print, and in-person outreach, including information tables, open houses, and brief service-awareness presentations at orientation events and, at the instructor’s invitation, in classrooms with deliberate attention to reaching students who may not self-identify as needing support.
  • Connects students to the appropriate campus or community service when their needs go beyond peer support and refers to the Director those matters that fall outside the established scope of the role, based on pre-established parameters.
  • Supports the Director in planning and continuous improvement of academic support programming, including contributing to term-by-term service reviews.
Relational Support & Community Connection
  • Maintains a scheduled, regular in-person presence in the Aboriginal Resource Centre ( ARC ), developed in partnership with the Indigenization portfolio and in alignment with the College’s Indigenization commitments.
  • Builds and sustains trusting, ongoing relationships with students, approaching each person as a whole individual rather than a presenting problem; provides connection, navigation support, and a dependable point of contact for students during their time at CNC.
  • Supports students in identifying the right on- and off-campus resources and, where appropriate, assists students in the process of accessing resources.
  • Contributes to a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment in all…
