Underground Mine Trainer - FIFO

Summary

Hecla Keno Hill is seeking an Underground Mine Trainer to lead hands‑on training of underground lateral development and production miners. The position involves developing curriculum, delivering training, and certifying miners operating in a narrow‑vein hard‑rock mining environment while ensuring integration of the company’s Safety 365 values in every mining cycle (drill, blast, muck, bolt, and backfill).

The Keno Hill mine is located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. It is one of the world’s highest‑grade silver districts, situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse and within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na‑Cho Nyak Dun. The mine covers 242 km² and holds numerous mineral deposits, with over 35 historical past‑producing sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce ~3 million ounces of silver in 2026.

Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, owns and operates the site. Established in 1891, Hecla has a long track record as a respected precious‑metals producer and has received numerous safety and environmental awards.

• Lead a mining crew and perform individual mining tasks associated with narrow‑vein mining, including drill, load/blast, muck, bolt, backfill, hang utilities, and vent.
• Provide on‑the‑job training and safety training, conduct job observations, and review safe work practices with trainees and other mine employees.
• Train and develop employees to improve capabilities and prepare them for promotion opportunities, particularly in lateral drift mining.
• Focus training on jackleg and CMAC bolting.
• Complete daily paperwork to maintain pass‑downs and training records.
• Ensure employees have the necessary tools, equipment, supplies, guidance, and support.
• Assist in creating and improving standard operating procedures (SOPs); other duties may be assigned.
• Promote a strong environmental culture, teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices.
• Foster a strong safety culture, exemplifying safe work practices across the organization.

• Ensure production efficiencies by collaborating with mine supervisors, superintendents, and other stakeholders to meet immediate and long‑term underground production and development targets.
• Maintain self‑motivation and an independent work ethic.
• Collaborate with operators, geologists, shifters, trainers, and maintenance personnel.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 5+ years of underground mining experience required.
• 5+ years operating single boom jumbos, CMAC bolters, jack legs/stopers, scissor decks, and muckers required.
• Experience with “Train the Trainer” and a desire to train others is preferred.
• Experience with narrow‑vein cut‑and‑fill mining in a fast‑paced production setting is preferred.
• Yukon Permanent First Line Supervisor Certificate or ability to obtain.
• Valid Yukon Blasting Certificate or ability to obtain.
• Mine rescue certification is highly regarded.

• Pre‑employment testing: drug & alcohol, blood lead, and audiogram.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Clean Driver’s Abstract.
• Criminal Record Clearance.
