Job Title: Process Safety Engineer

An energy infrastructure organization is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to join its Engineering team. This position will provide technical leadership in process safety management and loss prevention, supporting refinery operations and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
This is a site-based role requiring strong collaboration with engineering, operations, maintenance, and safety teams.

The Process Safety Engineer will provide engineering expertise and leadership in process safety management (PSM) and loss prevention. This includes governance, sustainment, and continuous improvement of safety processes, systems, and methodologies.
This role requires a hands‑on approach and active engagement across teams to ensure alignment with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and sustain process safety management (PSM) systems and loss prevention programs, including processes, audits, and documentation
- Manage and ensure consistent application of process safety and loss prevention standards and procedures
- Support regulatory relationships, inspections, audits, and information requests related to process safety and insurance requirements
- Facilitate process hazard analyses (e.g., HAZOP), risk assessments, and safety studies
- Assess technical and engineering risks to reduce incident potential
- Provide input into engineering specifications related to PSM and loss prevention
- Implement and track KPIs to support continuous improvement in safety performance
- Participate in projects and facility modifications to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Train and educate personnel on process safety and industry best practices
- Provide operational support, including troubleshooting and incident investigations
- Engineering degree in an industrial discipline (Chemical or Mechanical preferred)
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada (e.g., EGBC or APEGA)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in process or process safety engineering within an industrial environment
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience with process hazard analysis methods (PHA), including HAZOP, LOPA, HazID, and SIL studies
- Knowledge of process safety management and loss prevention standards
- Experience with Management of Change (MOC) processes is an asset
- Completion of industry-recognized process safety training (e.g., CCPS courses) is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Effective time management, organization, and prioritization skills
- Analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Previous experience in gas processing, refining, or similar operations is preferred
- Leadership experience is considered an asset
