The Opportunity

McElhanney is looking for an experienced Intermediate/Senior Civil Engineer who is a team player to join the our growing team. In this role, you’ll work on meaningful projects that directly impact development across local communities, while building strong, lasting relationships along the way. You’re someone who is goal-oriented, thrives in a team environment, and takes pride in mentoring and supporting junior technical staff.

As part of our engineering team, you’ll contribute to a wide range of municipal and infrastructure projects, delivering practical, sustainable solutions that make a real difference. Beyond technical work, you’ll have opportunities to think strategically, contribute to business development, and play an active role in team leadership and growth. You’ll collaborate with a diverse network of professionals, including civil, transportation, water/wastewater, geotechnical, and structural engineers, as well as geomatics and environmental specialists.

Location

This role reports to the Prince George office; however, the successful candidate may be based out of any McElhanney office within British Columbia.

What You’ll Do
  • Build business and seek opportunities that will grow the skill set of the team.
  • Provide detailed production of engineering designs, drawings and specifications for various civil projects including new municipal utilities, road works, bridges and culverts, water and wastewater, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Manage projects from planning through completion, including client communication, budgeting, scheduling and overall project coordination.
  • Work from preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans and project informational requirements, using Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of documents required for approvals, prepare construction cost estimates, tender documents, and contracts, prepare contract documents, as well as coordinate with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.
  • Assist with construction management and contract administration, including field reviews and safety leadership visits.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
