Summary

We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety professional to join our team. The successful candidate will report to site leadership and be an integral member of the Health and Safety function, providing leadership, oversight, and support across all departments.

This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Health and Safety programs and systems to ensure regulatory compliance, effective risk management, and a strong safety culture across the operation.

About Us

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites.

Keno Hill is expected to produce ~3.0 million ounces of silver in 2026 as the mine ramps up production.

The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here’s What You Can Expect In This Role

Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to the Health and Safety team, supporting professional development and accountability.

  • Provide Health and Safety leadership and guidance to all site departments.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, corporate standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate and support incident investigations, risk assessments, and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support and oversee contractor safety management and ensure consistent application of site safety expectations.
  • Manage emergency preparedness, training, and Mine Rescue/Emergency Response programs.
  • Monitor Health and Safety performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with regulators and external stakeholders.
  • Promote and foster a strong safety and environmental culture across the operation.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

Degree or advanced diploma, or recognized designation in Occupational Health and Safety, mining, or a related discipline required.

  • 10-15+ years of progressive experience in the mining industry, with significant Health and Safety leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop Health and Safety teams in an operational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Health and Safety Management Systems, legislation, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience facilitating incident investigations, risk assessments, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Underground Mine Rescue experience required;
    Mine Rescue Instructor certification is a strong asset.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and health & safety reporting platforms.
  • Ability to operate independently, take accountability for outcomes, and foster a positive safety culture across the site.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • Pre-Employment Testing (drug & alcohol, blood lead, and audiogram)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract
