Job Summary
The MOTT Weather Network Program is an established and highly collaborative team of technologists dedicated to supporting transportation safety across the province. With a total of 12 staff working province-wide—including a close-knit group of two based in Prince George—this team partners closely with other Ministry of Transportation and Transit staff as well as external contractors such as electrical and maintenance specialists.

Together, they play a critical role in improving public safety and ensuring the efficient movement of goods and people throughout British Columbia. Team members are known for their strong coordination and cooperation, working collectively to achieve shared objectives while maintaining a supportive and collegial environment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology or related field, plus 2 years related experience OR,

High school Diploma plus three years related experience OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Related experience includes the following:

Experience with industry grade electronics and control systems

Experience in electronics instrumentation, preferably within the WNP or other weather network

Experience with environmental data acquisition – its collection, analysis and application

Experience working in a comparable or similar capacity, outdoors, in an alpine environment, in harsh winter conditions

A fundamental understanding of electronics coding languages

Experience with data loggers and sensing equipment

Preference

Canadian Avalanche Association Resource Transportation Avalanche Management Course or equivalent.

Basic Fall Protection Course

Bucket Truck Operation Course

Provisos / Willingness Statements

Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

Willingness to work outdoors in adverse winter weather.

Willingness to use high level of mechanical aptitude (use of hand and power tools etc.)

Willingness to speak in public.

Willingness to work in a comparable or similar capacity, outdoors, in an alpine environment, in harsh winter conditions.

Willingness to backcountry travel on foot, snow board or skis.

Willingness to manage and conduct helicopter field work.

Willingness to work at heights on communications towers and in mobile equipment (Bucket Trucks, lifts etc.)

About this Position
One position is currently available in Prince George. An eligibility list may be established for Prince George, Terrace, Victoria, Salmon Arm, Penticton and Nelson for future temporary and permanent vacancies. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
