Position Summary Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Northern Health. In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
The LPN works collaboratively as a member of an inter‑professional care team and in a team nursing approach with a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) to care for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires a level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice of an LPN, providing nursing care to an assigned group of patients, and assists patients in meeting their physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs consistent with established protocols.
Participates in developing care plans, conducting assessments, implementing, and evaluating interventions, documenting information and acting as an advocate for patients/residents. Participates in a variety of meetings including care conferences and assists with orientation of new staff and students as required. Responds and reports incidents according to established procedures and performs clerical duties as needed.
Qualifications Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses and current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and one‑year recent related clinical nursing experience in a Mental Health Substance Use - Withdrawal Management setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current basic cardiac life support certification.
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with others effectively.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to operate related equipment.
Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills.
Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies.
Ability to prioritize and organize work.
Ability to teach and identify patient/families learning needs.
