Position Summary
Do you have a passion for nursing? We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at GR Baker Memorial Hospital. The nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and the code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Under the general supervision of the Program Lead or designate and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary care team, the nurse will provide direct patient care to persons with addictions, psychiatric illness, and/or challenging behaviours.
Through comprehensive assessment, intervention planning, monitoring, individual and group therapy, consultation, and intervention, the nurse supports effective patient flow for assessed patients, including those awaiting transfer for further assessment, and assists with patient admission and transfer to ensure services and bed destinations are achieved in a timely manner.
Days, Nights - 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00, Rotating
Qualifications- Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or RPN registrant.
- Minimum of one (1) year recent experience in an acute mental health setting or equivalent experience in other areas of the mental health field.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to apply clinical and critical thinking.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the health care team, and clients/families.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other care providers to facilitate and enhance inter‑agency and inter‑departmental problem solving.
- Ability to deal with others effectively, including establishing and maintaining rapport with psychotic and crisis‑prone individuals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mental health and addictions assessment, psychopharmacology, general counselling principles and interview techniques, crisis theory, de‑escalation techniques, seclusion and restraint practices, violence management protocols, community resource and social service utilization, and Mental Health Act provisions.
- Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
- Ability to provide and promote safe and competent patient care.
- Ability to recognize and intervene appropriately in an emergency situation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use an electronic file system for service delivery.
- Ability to proactively and effectively resolve issues impacting quality and continuity of care.
- Ability to organize work and set and adjust priorities in relation to identified risk factors.
