Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at GR Baker Memorial Hospital. In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, this position practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.

The Registered Nurse – Emergency/High Acuity, working collaboratively with the interprofessional team, plans and provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to clients with various complex health care issues, from non-urgent to life threatening to patients in the Emergency & High Acuity departments. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities.

Days, Nights, 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 (rotating)

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Completion of a recognized combined Emergency & High Acuity specialty program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (CTAS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and the members of the interprofessional team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
  • Ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem‑solve effectively.
  • Ability to promote person‑focused care that demonstrates care for and with patients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, resident advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Ability to transmit information intended to instruct patients, families/care givers and others about topics essential to health care and well‑being.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
  • Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research‑based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health‑related disciplines and the humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
