Position: Registered Nurse (rn), Staff, Intensive Care Unit )

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care in the ICU at the University Hospital of Northern BC. The RN works under the general supervision of the Manager or designate and adheres to the standards of professional practice set by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), focusing on a patient and family–centered care model.

Shift

Rotation / Hours of Work

Days and nights, rotating shifts: 07:00 to 19:15 and 19:00 to 07:15.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a practicing RN.
  • Completion of a recognized specialty program in intensive care nursing or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Skills and Abilities
  • Cardiac monitoring skills.
  • Assessment, planning, and evaluation of nursing care for complex health care issues.
  • Initiation and maintenance of intravenous therapy.
  • Initial and ongoing patient assessments, including clinical and diagnostic reasoning.
  • Effective communication with patients, families, public, medical staff, and interprofessional team using verbal, written, and computer communication means.
  • Integration and evaluation of pertinent data from multiple sources to problem‑solve effectively.
  • Promotion of person‑focused care, empathy, cultural sensitivity, patient advocacy, and social justice concerns.
  • Organization and prioritization of work.
  • Support of decisions and actions with relevant research‑based evidence and best practice from nursing and allied health disciplines.
  • Operation of related equipment and relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
