Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse dedicated to delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC). The Nurse will support the Northern Emergency Response Team (NERT) and provide virtual support to Rural Emergency Department nurses as part of a patient and family centered care model in accordance with BC College of Nurses and Midwives standards.
Responsibilities- Perform interfacility transfers alongside BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.
- Provide real‑time advice and mentorship for Rural Emergency Department nurses managing complex patients through an established virtual network.
- Assist with patient care as required, working with hospital‑based practitioners at UHNBC and supporting the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and other healthcare teams.
- Practice the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—across a variety of clinical settings.
- Collaborate with bedside nurses and multidisciplinary care teams in Rural Emergency Departments to deliver appropriate care within available resources.
- Engage with specialized communication and information technologies to support care planning and delivery.
- Shift rotation:
Days 07:00–19:00, Nights 19:00–07:00, rotating.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Successful completion of an accredited critical care training course and/or certificate with a minimum of five years recent related experience caring for critically ill/injured patients, including experience performing inter‑facility patient transfers; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Completion of one or more accredited advanced emergency care courses such as Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC), Emergency Practice, Interventions and Care Canada (EPICC) – Trauma and Pediatrics, Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (CTAS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognitions and Stabilization (PEARS) Course, and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Current valid BC driver’s licence.
- Ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
- Strong communication skills with clients, families, the public, medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members via verbal, written, and computer methods.
- Ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data from multiple sources to problem‑solve effectively.
- Commitment to patient‑focused care, sensitivity to diverse cultures, patient advocacy, and social justice concerns.
- Ability to transmit health information effectively to patients and others.
- Excellent time and resource management, promoting cooperation and collaboration across disciplines.
- Support staff morale, innovation, risk‑taking, and ongoing professional development.
- Use research‑based evidence to support decisions and actions.
- Integrate best practice from nursing, health, humanities, arts, and sciences disciplines.
- Maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including Cerner and Windows programs, e‑mail, and word processing.
- Operate related equipment as required in the practice area.
- Travel within the Northern Health Region to facilitate patient transfers daily.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
