The Northern Emergency Response Team (NERT) is an interfacility ground transport program in Northern Health. Based out of the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC), critical care registered nurses and respiratory therapists transport seriously injured or ill patients requiring critical care monitoring, medications, or interventions.

NERT also provides site support to surrounding rural facilities while awaiting BCEHS critical care teams.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Successful completion of an accredited critical care training course and/or certificate with a minimum of five years recent related experience caring for critically ill/injured patients including experience performing inter‑facility patient transfers; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Successful completion of an accredited advanced emergency care courses, including Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) or Emergency Practice, Interventions and Care Canada (EPICC) - Trauma and Pediatrics, Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (CTAS) Certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognitions and Stabilization (PEARS) Course, and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
