About the opportunity: Working as part of the Parks & Solid Waste team, you will be responsible for skilled horticulture work involving the cultivation of flowers, plants, and shrubs in landscaped areas. Further responsibilities include the maintenance of landscaped and park areas and assisting with the division’s Integrated Pest Management program. From time to time, you will be required to oversee the work of several employees engaged in a variety of routine parks tasks.
As a Gardener, you will be required to work outside in all weather conditions.
About your background: You have completed Grade 12, hold a college certificate in Horticulture or a related discipline, and have a valid Pesticide Applicator’s License (Landscape General). A Worksafe BC Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1 certification is also advantageous; if you do not have it, you must complete the training within six (6) months of being hired. Additionally, you should have one year of directly related horticulture experience along with one year of experience in the use of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.
A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license (or out-of-province equivalent) is required, along with a clear Police Information Check for offenses related to the position.
