What Your Day Will Look Like

As a Senior Archaeologist, you will provide technical leadership on archaeological projects from planning through completion, ensuring work meets professional, regulatory, and quality standards. You will guide archaeological field programs and contribute to project planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting in accordance with applicable legislation and best practices.

Working closely with Project Managers and project teams, you will help support project delivery and ensure technical requirements are met.

You will also mentor junior and intermediate staff, contribute to knowledge sharing, and support a collaborative team environment. The role includes engagement with clients, Indigenous partners, regulators, and other stakeholders as part of responsible project delivery. This position will typically include a combination of field and office-based work.

What You’llbe Responsible for
  • Provide guidance,training and direction to junior and intermediate archaeologists to ensure the quality and accuracy of work performed.
  • Work with Project Managers to manage discipline-specific components of projects, including work scopes, budget and schedule management, client liaison, technical leadership,equipment and coordinating project teams.
  • Support or lead aspects of project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resourcing.
  • Lead and oversee archaeological assessments, evaluations, and mitigations under permitting and non-permitted contexts.
  • Analyze and interpret archaeological and cultural heritage data to support archaeological assessments, impact evaluations, and the development of practical mitigation and management strategies.
  • Apply expert-level knowledge of provincial/ territorial regulatory frameworks to ensure projectscomply withall relevant archaeological and heritage legislation, policies, and permitting requirements at provincial/territorial and federal levels.

What Will Help You Succeed:

Our ideal candidate has ten or more years of experience in archaeology consulting withdemonstratedleadership and team management skills. You are a highly organized and motivated self-starter with strong communication, problem-solving, and time management abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities effectively. Experience in developing study designs, preparing reports, and mentoring junior staff will be valuable in this role. You will also demonstrate

Indigenous cultural awareness and the ability to build respectful partnerships with First Nations communities.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with GIS or digital data platforms is an asset. This role requires a degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, with aMaster’spreferred, and eligibility to work injurisdictionswhere Ecofor operates.

  • B.A. or BSc. In Archaeology or Anthropology
  • Master’s in Archaeology or Anthropology an asset.
  • Ten (10) plus years’ experience in archaeology consulting.
  • Prior working experience in government and/or in the mining and oil and gas sectors are considered assets.
