A Day in the Life of an All Purpose Clerk

As a customer yourself, you know how important helpful service is. The impression shoppers get at the front end of the store is key to building customer loyalty. So too is maintaining a well-stocked store (for both the Grocery and Produce sections) so that the customer shopping experience is quick, easy, and efficient. Our All Purpose Clerks play a vital role in the success of our stores.

Full training is provided for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Upholds and complies with company procedures, standards, and policies in all situations
  • Greets customers in a polite and friendly manner
  • Demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with Safeway’s programs
  • Processes cash register payments by cash, cheque, credit card, gift card and debit
  • Wraps and places merchandise in bags or carts
  • Maintains cleanliness of check stands
  • Stocks product to shelves such as Dairy, Frozen, produce and non-perishables
  • Maintains and builds merchandise displays in compliance with Safeway programs
  • Rotates product
  • Loads and unloads product for the sales floor
  • Backroom and inventory management
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Store Manager

Physical Requirements
  • Constant lifting of up to 20 pounds
  • Constant reaching, gripping
  • Constant use of computer and point of sale system
  • Frequent bending, walking, standing, twisting, pushing or pulling
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20-50 pounds, including waist level and low level lifts
  • Occasional crouching, kneeling, squatting
