Retail Associate/ Customer Service
Job Purpose
The Store Clerk/Sales Associate provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists the manager in the maintenance of all store operations.
CharacteristicJob Duties
- Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards
- Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”
- Replenishes inventory levels based on Supervisor’s directions
- Processing incoming donations
- Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
- Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness)
- Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Completed Public School.
Minimum Prior Related Experience- The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:
- Up to three months of prior related experience, including life skills.
The performance of the job requires continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting, kneeling and entering data for transactions.
Concentration RequiredThe performance of the job requires visual monitoring and frequently working with numbers.
Responsibility For Financial ResourcesThe incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.
Responsibility For Human ResourcesThe incumbent’s responsibility for Human Resources:
The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students.
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the store.

- Verbal abuse
- Dealing with angry people
- Work schedule may impact life (weeknights & weekends)
- Physical attacks by others

- Other potentially dangerous situations (hold ups)
- Universal Precautions
- Wear gloves to sort
- Use fatigue mats when required
Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
CompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $19.85 with a maximum of $23.82. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
