Job Summary

The Team
The Out of Care Resources Team (QHB) assesses Kinship Care applicants, manages care provider contracts, and provides ongoing support to caregivers who help children and youth thrive in safe, stable, and nurturing environments. As part of a collaborative team of Out of Care Social Workers and a Team Assistant, you will work closely with Child Protection, Guardianship, Family Services, Indigenous Bands, Nations and Agencies, health authorities, school districts, and community partners to strengthen connections and build networks of care for children and youth.

This team values diverse perspectives, supports culturally responsive practice, and remains committed to reducing the over representation of Indigenous children in care while helping children and youth maintain meaningful relationships and a strong sense of belonging.
The Role
As an Out of Care Worker, you will assess Kinship Care providers, complete home and caregiver assessments, manage financial supports and contracts, and connect caregivers with training, services, and resources that help them provide safe and stable care for children and youth. Working closely with Child Protection and Guardianship teams, Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies, community partners, and caregivers, you will help strengthen meaningful family, cultural, and community connections while supporting positive outcomes for children and youth.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
• In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA)

• A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
  • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

2. Expanded Credentials:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree witha Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
