Position Title: Lifeguard

Location: Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre (390 Columbia St E, Vanderhoof)

Term: Permanent Casual

Hours:0-30 hours per week

Shift: Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: $23.97 per hour

Reports To: Supervisor, Aquatics

Nature & Scope

The Lifeguard will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment.

Major Responsibilities-in this position, you will:

Guarding in a positive and professional manner

Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues

Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities

Perform routine pool maintenance, as required

Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff, including all locker rooms and spectator viewing areas

Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices

Remain flexible – willing to learn new skills, alter shifts

Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required

Qualifications-
you bring:

Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years)

CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)

National Lifeguard - Pool Option

Must be at least 16 years of age

Experience as a Lifeguard - preferred

YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred

Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle

Aquatic related certifications from a recognized certifying body (LSS, Red Cross, BCRPA, etc.) - preferred

Demonstrated high level of customer service skills

Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
