Van Pile is seeking an experienced Project Buyer to join our team in support of a major Alta Gas Project in Prince Rupert, BC
.
Reporting to the Project Services Manager
, the Project Buyer will play a critical role in ensuring materials, equipment, and services are procured, expedited, delivered, and received in accordance with project requirements and construction schedules. This position is essential to maintaining material readiness and supporting efficient project execution in a fast-paced industrial construction environment.
This is a 12-month fly-in, fly-out contract working a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation
, with company-paid travel and accommodations provided throughout the assignment.
- Review and process approved purchase requisitions, ensuring the accuracy of material descriptions, cost coding, specifications, and required delivery dates.
- Source materials, equipment, and services from approved suppliers while ensuring compliance with procurement policies and project requirements.
- Conduct supplier sourcing activities, competitive bid evaluations, and commercial comparisons.
- Issue and administer purchase orders, amendments, and procurement documentation through the company's ERP system.
- Expedite purchase orders and monitor supplier performance to ensure on-time delivery of materials and services.
- Identify and proactively mitigate procurement risks that may impact project schedules or construction activities.
- Coordinate closely with project management, construction, engineering, logistics, quality, and material management teams.
- Track supplier deliverables, certifications, inspection documentation, and turnover requirements.
- Resolve supplier issues including delivery delays, shortages, damaged materials, invoice discrepancies, and non-conformance concerns.
- Maintain procurement records, reporting metrics, and audit documentation in accordance with company and project requirements.
- Support project cost control initiatives through effective purchasing practices and supplier management.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Diploma, Degree, or Certificate in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or materials management experience within industrial, marine, energy, heavy civil, infrastructure, or construction projects.
- Strong understanding of purchasing processes, vendor management, competitive sourcing, contract administration, and procurement best practices.
- Experience working in project-based construction environments with demanding schedules and multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications;
Acumatica experience is considered an asset
. - Knowledge of logistics coordination, material management, supplier performance monitoring, and expediting processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.
- Experience supporting large industrial, marine, LNG, energy, or infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
The following would be considered assets:
- Professional designations such as SCMP, CPSM, CSCP, CPIM, or other recognized supply chain certifications
. - Experience with supplier prequalification platforms such as ISNetworld
, Avetta, or similar systems. - Familiarity with construction contract terms, project controls, and cost management processes.
- Previous fly-in fly-out project experience in remote locations.
