Part‑Time Controller for Nonprofit Organizations

  • For full‑time positions: 35‑hour week, eligibility for paid overtime for non‑exempt employees, four weeks paid time off (100 hours to start with eligibility for additional vacation based on tenure and a minimum 40 hours sick time), 9 paid holidays, full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and supplementary benefits, generous employer contributions to medical premiums.

Responsibilities
  • Transform nonprofit client financial departments to help them meet their mission.
  • Provide financial reporting for management and board decision‑making and presentations.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies and procedures, supporting client strategy and best practices.
  • Perform transactional activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable (revenue recognition and billing), payroll, general accounting, reconciliations, month‑end close, and maintain work papers.
  • Analyze and create data visualizations, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Manage grant accounting, allocations, and funder reporting.
  • Prepare for and manage annual audit.
  • Provide client and staff training opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Passionate about working in or supporting nonprofit organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting or finance.
  • 5–7+ years of accounting experience.
  • Experience working in a remote environment preferred.
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple clients, work independently, and be responsive in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with multiple general ledger packages, especially Quick Books, and electronic bill‑pay systems.
  • Non‑profit accounting, public accounting, or consulting experience is a plus but not required.
  • CPA certification is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Custom cover letter explaining interest and qualifications for this role is required.

Starting hourly rate is $50 to $65 per hour for this non‑exempt position. Total compensation may increase with overtime pay and eligibility for various bonuses. A professional development reimbursement and technology stipend are also provided annually. The base rate may vary depending on relevant factors such as education, skills, experience, licensure and certifications, internal salary ranges, geographic location, and other business needs.
