The PositionChapin School seeks a homeroom teacher for grades Kindergarten-three. Homeroom teachers are responsible for creating a supportive and caring classroom environment for students and focusing on the cognitive and social-emotional development of students. Teachers are responsible for instruction in language arts, math, social studies, and science. This position works closely with and reports to the Director of PreK-8.
Responsibilities- Create and implement lessons that accommodate the spectrum of student needs through differentiated instruction
- Work with the Academic Coordinator to:
- Ensure that classroom units and lessons follow the established curriculum
- Complete baseline assessments and progress monitoring of students
- Identify students requiring accommodations, extra support, or additional testing
- Work with Academic Technologist and Academic Integration and Design teacher to develop cross-curricular projects to be completed during Academic Integration co-curricular class
- Document student feedback in progress notes throughout the year and report cards at the end of the trimester
- Fulfill lunch and recess duty responsibilities
- Conduct parent fall and spring conferences and throughout the year as needed
- Plan parent shares during the year and Step-Up events in the spring to provide a glimpse for families as to what is happening in the classroom
- Bachelor’s degree is required;
Master’s preferred - Knowledge of best practices in 21st century instruction
- Forward thinking and creative teacher
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
- Comfort with technology integration
- Experience with differentiated instruction
- Commitment to collaborative and innovative teaching styles
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Experience working in independent schools preferred but not required
