What You'll Do:- Teach Engaging Curriculum
:
Use company-created curriculum and materials designed for advanced students to lead small classes in math. - Engage Students: Actively involve students in each class or student-led learning.
- Classroom Management: Expertly manage up to 16 students.
- Grade & Provide Feedback: Provide feedback on tests.
- Build Relationships: Connect with students and families to make a lasting impact on their educational journey.
- Inspire Learning: Encourage a love for learning and critical thinking in math.
- A Bachelorâs degree is required.
- A Bachelorâs degree in a STEM-related or educational field is strongly preferred.
- Strong content knowledge in math.
- Experience teaching or tutoring students.
- Classroom teaching experience at the K-12 level is preferred.
Required:
- A formal teaching credential is not required for this position.
- AoPS Academy is an on-site after school program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends.
- This position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class.
- Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.
Honors Math 1:
Students develop their number sense and begin to learn about place value. They are introduced to addition and subtraction and are encouraged to approach numerical problems in clever ways. Students play games, solve puzzles, manipulate shapes, and measure physical objects to build foundational understanding of mathematical concepts.
Honors Math 2:
Students expand their understanding of the number system and place value, develop fluency in addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers, and explore the properties of special types of numbers such as odds and evens. Each lesson includes challenging word problems and engaging puzzles that guide students toward a deep mathematical foundation.
Honors Math 3:
Students are introduced to fractions, expanding their understanding of numbers. They develop fluency with multiplication and division and explore two-dimensional shapes, estimation, and the use of variables. Regular word problems teach students how to translate between writing and mathematical symbols, and puzzles help students practice strategic thinking.
Honors Math 4:
Students master operations with fractions and multiplication and division of multi-digit numbers. They explore a wide variety of topics, including properties of two-dimensional shapes, symmetry, logic, factors, and probability. Students expand their understanding of numbers to include decimals and negative integers, and they learn to create and use mathematical models via challenging word problems.
Honors Math 5:
Students master the key topics they'll need to succeed in AoPS Prealgebra and other middle school math courses. Students complete their study of the arithmetic of fractions, decimals, and negative integers. They are also introduced to topics in geometry, number theory, statistics, and algebra. Thought-provoking word problems and puzzles reinforce critical problem solving skills, mathematical modeling, and deductive reasoning.
Honors Math 6 - Prealgebra
:
Students formalize the rules of arithmetic learned…
