Position Summary
The Speech‑Language Pathologist will be responsible for delivering essential speech‑language pathology evaluation, treatment, and care planning services. Your work directly impacts residents' ability to communicate effectively, think clearly, and eat/drink safely, significantly enhancing their daily function and enjoyment of life.
Responsibilities- Comprehensive Evaluation & Treatment:
Perform thorough evaluations of residents' speech, language, cognitive, voice, and swallowing function to develop and implement tailored, evidence‑based treatment plans. - Direct Therapy:
Provide specialized services including dysphagia management, cognitive‑linguistic retraining, speech/language therapy, and communication strategies. - Collaborative Care:
Act as a vital member of the interdisciplinary team, coordinating care with physicians, nurses, dietitians, and other therapists to ensure holistic resident outcomes. - Education & Support:
Educate residents, families, and caregivers on therapy goals, compensatory strategies, and safe swallowing practices to maximize functional independence. - Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation (evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries) in accordance with regulatory and professional guidelines. - Technology & Professional Growth:
Recommend and train on augmentative/adaptive communication devices and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, team meetings, and ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Education:
Master’s degree (M.A.) in Speech‑Language Pathology or equivalent. - Licensure:
Active state license to practice as a Speech‑Language Pathologist. - Certifications:
Current CPR certification. - Experience:
Demonstrated clinical experience (4+ years preferred; newer graduates will be considered based on overall experience).
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech‑Language Pathology (CCC‑SLP) from ASHA (CFY candidates accepted under supervision).
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or extensive related experience (10+ years).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with residents, families, and the healthcare team.
- Strong clinical judgment and problem‑solving skills, particularly in complex geriatric cases.
- Proficiency in electronic documentation systems and relevant industry‑specific software.
- Commitment to ethical practice and maintaining regulatory standards.
- Ability to occasionally provide clinical supervision to CFYs or students.
Primarily an indoor healthcare setting with constant interaction with residents.
Weekend AvailabilityWeekend availability may be required on a rotational basis.
