The NJ Coalition to End Homelessness (NJCEH) is a statewide, social impact nonprofit working to eradicate homelessness in New Jersey. NJCEH Ameri Corps Program supports homeless shelters and outreach providers by placing Ameri Corps members to assist clients experiencing homelessness and support client stability. Placements may be available in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Union, and Warren counties.
Service will be based on the needs of your site and may include guiding clients through steps such as obtaining identification, enrolling in benefits, securing employment, applying for housing, finding mental health resources, budgeting, and tenancy skills.
- Assist with intakes to assess housing needs of clients.
- Address housing barriers with clients, including obtaining funding for security deposits, rental fees, or utilities; help apply for housing.
- Create/update lists of available housing; maintain/develop relationships with local landlords and employers.
- Gather and disperse food and clothing donations to clients.
- Support clients with job searches, resume building, and job applications.
- Help clients achieve housing stabilization skills and goals.
- Organize life skills workshops (e.g., budgeting, tenancy, employment).
- Provide information on other income sources (TANF, Medicaid, SSI, etc.) and assist with applications or referrals to case managers.
- Generate information materials for clients (newsletters, pamphlets, etc.).
- Connect clients with additional resources and provide follow-up support as needed.
