Overview

The Department of Chemistry seeks a Research Scholar to manage, under minimal supervision, all facets of the research group of Professor Mircea Dinca, involving the design, discovery, and utilization of new materials for energy and environmental applications. The position includes research, technical, and administrative responsibilities related to grant proposals, scientific editing, information organization, project and financial management, and coordination with collaborators and funding agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the research group with PI and Co-PI status on grants; coordinate funding and, when possible, provide partial funding for the position.
  • Prepare grant proposals, interim reports, progress reports, project plans, and presentations; coordinate meetings and transfer of deliverables with collaborators and funding agencies.
  • Oversee laboratory and instrument maintenance; train new academic personnel on lab-specific equipment; ensure safety guidelines are met; manage vendor relations and service contracts; purchase equipment as needed.
  • Manage spending on federal and corporate sponsored grants and unrestricted research funding; develop proposals and budgets; coordinate sponsored research and grant submissions.
  • Interface with other facilities on campus and at national user facilities; secure competitive funding to support independent research.
  • Design, develop, and lead independent research projects, focusing on the use of porous materials to tackle environmental applications and study fundamental chemical phenomena.
  • Present research at conferences and scientific meetings; collaborate with researchers at Princeton and externally to foster innovation.
  • Serve as a primary resource for lab members on research techniques; supervise staff; onboard new staff; contribute to performance reviews; provide mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
Qualifications
  • Essential:
    Ph.D.; working knowledge of general laboratory equipment and materials; at least 5 years of experience in an academic, research, or nonprofit environment.
  • Preferred: ability to work independently within a team; excellent organizational, record-keeping, project management, and verbal and written communication skills; self-motivation, strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail; ability to supervise others; discretion and diplomacy.
