Certified Surg Tech-First Assist
WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital is seeking a dedicated Certified Surgical Technologist and Certified Surgical First Assistant to provide nursing support and direct patient care in an inpatient setting.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited surgical assisting program (CAAHEP).
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
- Current Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification.
- Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
- At least 2 years of progressive clinical scrub experience in a CST role.
- Recommendation from three different multi-specialty surgeons validating skill competency.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform technical skills required to prepare for surgical procedures.
- Assist perioperative team members in the care of surgical patients.
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Assist the surgeon with perioperative patient care and perform duties as assigned.
- Assess patient needs related to specific procedures and collect supplies and equipment.
- Deliver age‑appropriate care addressing cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial needs.
- Promote a safe environment and report potential complications to the RN.
- Assist with scheduling OR cases, recording information, and updating surgeon preference cards via the information management system.
- Perform central reprocessing tasks, including decontamination, instrument preparation for sterilization, and equipment record maintenance.
- Utilize appropriate positioning of the patient and proper mechanics to maintain circulation and visibility during procedures.
- Assist with visualization of the operative site, including retraction, packing, digital manipulation, and suture materials handling.
- Assist with hemostasis and closure of body planes.
- Select and apply appropriate wound dressings.
- Assist with securing drainage systems to tissues.
- Capable of prolonged standing and walking.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and move carts up to 200 lbs.
- Require visual, hearing, oral acuity, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to wear protective equipment for extended periods.
- May be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic gases, fumes, odors.
- Exposure to electrical current and radiation from x‑rays.
- Perform complex mental activity and adapt to varying workloads.
- Make sound judgments based on scientific principles and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Comprehend and execute oral and written instructions and procedures.
- Possess thorough knowledge of scrub skills for all surgical specialties.
