Position: RN - FT Float Pool (2 years experience required)

Overview

This Registered Nurse (RN) – Level I & II role is essential for delivering high‑quality inpatient patient care. The incumbent uses the nursing process, applies independent clinical judgment, and collaborates with the interprofessional team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current RN license issued by the state of service or a multi‑state RN license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support certification completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Two (2) years of RN experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prioritizes patient diagnoses, problems, and goals to meet patient and team needs.
  • Serves as a resource for patient and family learning needs.
  • Coordinates with the interprofessional team to manage changing priorities.
  • Functions as an independent team member to provide safe, quality care for patients.
  • Mentors colleagues in clinical knowledge, skills, and judgment.
  • Participates in the development and continuous improvement of systems that support the patient care planning process.
  • Leads interprofessional teams to collaborate and consult effectively.
  • Designs innovations to improve outcomes.
  • Assists other nurses in developing research skills.
  • Participates in collaborative planning to provide safe, high‑quality, patient‑centered health care.
  • Develops, implements, and reviews policies that promote patient health and safety.
  • Advocates for patient rights to inform decision making and self‑determination.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills within the community/healthcare arena.
  • Engages the healthcare consumer and other interprofessional team members in holistic, culturally sensitive data collection.
  • Integrates knowledge from global and environmental factors into the assessment process.
  • Identifies resources/actions to appropriately address cultural situations.
  • Recognizes personal bias.
  • Disseminates educational findings and experiences with colleagues.
  • Achieves higher levels of education/training, demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Identifies appropriate resources for ethical dilemmas and advances ethical nursing practice.
  • Required competencies include demonstration of regularly being a charge nurse and/or precepting new staff or nursing students.
Physical Requirements
  • The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends limiting manual patient handling to 35 pounds; use lift equipment and patient handling aids as indicated.
  • Heavy/Hard work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
  • Visual acuity within normal range.
  • Hearing within normal range.
Working Environment
  • Protracted or irregular hours.
  • Exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, and the deceased.
  • Work with water hands and electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.

CAPE Program Levels
  • Level 1No experience required; all graduate nurses with less than 12 months experience enter at Level One.
  • Level 2 – Meets requirements for previous level; one year of experience.
  • Level 3 – Meets requirements for previous levels; two years of experience plus one specialty certification; required competencies include charge nurse and precepting.
  • Level 4 – Available to nurses with BSN or higher or ADN/diploma with 5 years experience; one specialty certification required; required competencies include charge nurse and precepting and participation in QI and shared governance at the unit level.
