Position: Section Chief of Hepato Pancreatico Biliary (HPB) Surgery Needed - Brown Academic Appointment

The Division of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and at Brown Health is seeking an academic HPB surgeon to lead our HPB team. This position will be based primarily at Rhode Island Hospital, with practice opportunities at other Brown‑affiliated hospitals across the health system, including Newport Hospital and into southeastern Massachusetts.

The role is designed for a surgeon who is passionate about excellence in clinical care while also embracing the academic mission of our department. Approximately 80% of the position will be clinical, caring for patients with the full spectrum of HPB disease. In addition, there are rich opportunities to contribute to resident and fellow education and to engage in scholarly activity.

The Division is proud to support a General Surgery Residency, providing a stimulating teaching environment with motivated trainees at multiple levels.

Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience. The department values innovation, collaboration, and mentorship, and we are particularly interested in individuals who can enhance the research and educational missions of the division. Areas of potential scholarly focus include basic science, outcomes research, surgical education, health services research, and clinical innovation, though we are open to diverse academic interests.

About you
  • Be board-certified or board‑eligible in CGSO and/or General Surgery
  • Demonstrate excellence in patient care and surgical skill
  • Have a clear interest in teaching residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Show potential for scholarly contributions in clinical or translational research
  • Value collaboration in a collegial, multidisciplinary environment
About the benefits
  • Compensation $380K-$605K, with opportunity for bonuses, and is commensurate with experience
