The Manager of Museum Education and Programs is responsible for academic collections-based learning; public programming; pre‑K‑12 education; gallery access and visitor services; and community outreach at the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology.

The Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology is a teaching and research museum. A resource across the university, it inspires creative and critical thinking about culture by fostering interdisciplinary understanding of the material world. Responsibilities

The Manager of Museum Education and Programs manages, designs, coordinates, and sometimes delivers programming aligned with the museum's goal to create a welcoming and innovative educational environment. The role also manages HMA’s education collections and works collaboratively across museum departments, university departments, and external partners, including Native American and other stakeholder communities. The role provides significant input into the museum’s strategic direction and serves as a key advisor to leadership on matters of education, programming, exhibition, and community outreach.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Required:

    Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Education, Museum Studies, or a related field and minimum 3-5 years related experience.
  • Preferred:
    Master’s degree in a related field and minimum 3-5 years related experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Job Competencies

  • Expertise in museum educational program design, development, and delivery.
  • Record of effective collaboration with educators, guest speakers, artists, and/or community partners to create, organize, and deliver successful public programming.
  • Ability to work effectively across educational topics.
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills and ability to use related technologies.
  • Ability to manage and mentor staff and volunteers.
  • Budgeting experience is beneficial.
Salary Grade

Grade 10

Additional Information
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally to build community partnerships.
  • Evening and weekend work required to support public programs.
  • Requires on site work at both HMA’s Collections Research Center in Bristol, RI, and the Brown main campus in Providence, RI, for the next one to two years.
