Housing Assignments Specialist – Pre‑College Student Life

Pre‑College Student Life, Remote, Full‑time (37.5 hrs per week), Seasonal/Intermittent (May 11, 2026 – July 31, 2026). The position is not benefits‑eligible and requires evening and weekend work.

Job Description

The Division of Pre‑College and Undergraduate Programs offers non‑credit and credit courses to about 6,000 high‑school students and Brown undergraduate students. Our programs occur on the Providence campus, online, and in various locations, providing rigorous academic experiences and fostering a global community of peer scholars. The Division prioritizes a supportive, inclusive, and equitable living and learning environment for pre‑college students from all 50 states and over 70 countries.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Pre‑College Student Life – Student Support and Operations, the Housing Assignments Specialist manages the Division’s housing data in Star Rez. This includes overseeing the housing assignment process for seasonal staff and residential students, coordinating with colleagues to meet accessibility needs, maintaining accurate records, creating lists and reports, and handling last‑minute assignment changes throughout the program.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Director of Systems & Projects, the Associate Director of Student Support & Operations, and the Office of Residential Life to set up the Star Rez system for all Pre‑College needs and requirements.
  • Create all housing assignments, using both auto‑allocate and manual entry functions, for seasonal staff and residential students (volume ranges from ~300 – 3,000 weekly).
  • Consult with Brown University Office of Residential Life staff to ensure alignment with University standards.
  • Ensure all housing assignments meet the accessibility needs of residents.
  • Maintain accurate housing records in Star Rez and support divertional staff with last‑minute assignment changes.
  • Create lists and reports on demand to provide accessible housing information.
  • Document all processes in Star Rez to develop a guidebook for future use.
  • Provide training and support to colleagues on Star Rez documentation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in higher education, education, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Star Rez required.
  • 3–4 years of experience in education/student affairs administration, including housing assignments in a university setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of Star Rez.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing demands.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent time‑management skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and inclusiveness, sensitivity to diverse perspectives across academic, socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic, disability, gender, sexuality, and intersectional identities.
