The Office of College Admission thinks about how an applicants' unique talents, accomplishments, energy, curiosity, perspective and identity might weave into the ever-changing tapestry that is Brown University. Grades, standardized test scores, essays, recommendations, independent work, the quality of the secondary school program and achievements outside the classroom are among the factors used to evaluate this promise, but no one of these measures is considered determinative.
ResponsibilitiesAssociate Directors of Admission read and evaluate applications for admission; serve as voting members of the Board of Admission; develop regional recruitment strategies; represent the university nationally and internationally at high schools and community based organizations, admission workshops, college fairs, and Introduction to Brown and Brown Near You events, virtually and in-person. Associate Directors lead specialized admission programs and functions as assigned and contribute to the development of admission policies and strategies.
SomeResponsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Recruiting applicants to Brown University; leading presentations to inform applicants, counselors and families about unique opportunities at Brown.
- Counsel students and families through the admission and financial aid process.
- Develop relationships with counselors in schools and Community Based Organizations.
- Admission Officer On-Call Duties.
- Read and evaluate applications and recommend admission decisions to the Board of Admission Evaluation and selection of applicants.
- Plan and implement any number of admission processes and projects and implement strategy in special areas of expertise.

- Management of projects and processes.
- Demonstrated success in autonomous work, with increasing level of ownership of projects. This should include creating timelines, coordinating with communications and technical teams, sharing project updates office wide, anticipating problems and implementing solutions, analyzing data and writing annual summary reports of projects; mentoring and assisting in training and development of new and current staff.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Eight years of experience in education/higher education fields, with 6 years of college admission experience at a highly selective institution.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong writing, active listening and public speaking skills.
- Willingness to guide and mentor colleagues.
- Sensitivity to concerns of people of different ages and backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to work both independently and with groups.
