SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Lead Stationary Engineer, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Power Plant Mechanical Systems. - Operate high‑pressure steam boilers, compressors, and central chilled water generating systems, including cooling towers, pumps, gauges, and controls; periodically adjust controls as required and maintain systems for the duty station assigned.
- Operate, maintain, and test emergency electrical generators and related systems, in accordance with government regulations.
- Perform periodic tests of boiler feed water and cooling water, analyze results, and provide appropriate chemical treatment to maintain established chemical balance to prevent damage to systems.
- Monitor Building Management, Medical Gas/Vacuum, Generator, Fire Alarm, Boiler, and Chiller systems; troubleshoot alarms, perform adjustments as required, and notify Lead Stationary Engineer/Director of unresolved problems.
- Enter or close‑out routine work orders in the system as time and/or situation permits, dependent on Power Plant operations and patient safety responsibilities.
- Monitor levels, place orders, and maintain log of fuel oil, diesel oil, oxygen, and nitrous oxide deliveries; prepare monthly consumption report for Lead Stationary Engineer.
- Monitor alarm systems, including boilers, chillers, fire, medical gases, refrigeration, and HVAC systems; report abnormalities to the Lead Stationary Engineer, and/or Director, if emergency conditions exist.
- Perform preventative maintenance on system components, including packing valves, replacement gaskets, and lubrication.
- Perform emergency repairs.
- Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Perform other related duties, as required.
- BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Equivalent to the completion of four years of high school plus four years of apprenticeship training required for City of Providence licensing examination. City of Providence Stationary Engineer license required.
- EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year of related experience is required.
Pay Range: $26.27 - $43.34
