GZA is seeking on‑site Civil Engineering Technicians to support our geotechnical engineering practice in our Providence, Rhode Island office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform field tasks and assist with the technical execution of projects.
  • Field oversight and logging of subsurface explorations and classification of soil and bedrock in connection with foundation design and construction projects.
  • Soil and groundwater sampling for geotechnical and environmental analyses.
  • Concrete sampling and testing in accordance with ACI standards and project‑specific requirements.
  • Perform on‑site construction oversight and inspections for deep and shallow foundation construction, ground improvement, and retaining wall construction.
  • Perform in‑place density testing of soils using Troxler nuclear moisture‑density gauges.
  • Perform environmental sampling of soil, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air.
  • Monitor environmental remediation.
  • Gather data and other information to be used in the preparation of engineering deliverables.
  • Prepare engineering inspection reports summarizing data collected in the field.
  • Compile and organize data collected by others.
  • Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members.
Special Skills/Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education.
  • 0–5 years relevant experience.
  • Highly motivated self‑starter with a professional attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Ability to travel locally to various project sites. Occasional out‑of‑town travel will be required.
  • Candidate must have valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and consistent means of transportation to/from project sites.
  • Candidate should have the ability to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather and lift and use field equipment required to perform job functions.

The hourly rate for this position may range between $27.89 and $34.62. The salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.
