Reg Radiographer Mammographer role at Brown University Health

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Manager Medical Imaging and BHMG Lifestyle Medicine Manager, performs a variety of technical Bone Densitometry and mammographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Responsible for designated areas or procedures, as required. All essential functions reflect the age specific needs of adult and geriatric patients and adapt care to their physical, psychosocial and cultural needs.

Responsibilities
  • Meets, greets, answers questions, and explains mammographic/bone density examinations to patients to reduce apprehension; ensures safety and comfort.
  • Schedules bone density and mammography examinations in a prescribed manner to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Screens mammography and bone density patients (visual/written).
  • Performs diagnostic procedures with understanding of anatomy, physiology, and technical factors to produce optimal results.
  • Operates fixed radiographic equipment in the Radiology Department; at TMH, assists imaging of needle localization procedures.
  • Processes radiographic images and sends images to PACS for physician review; scans documents into RIS and PACS as applicable.
  • Maintains quality control for mammography unit and bone density in the absence of Lead DI Technologist; follows MQSA, ACR, and ISCD guidelines; adheres to PACS/RIS protocols.
  • Maintains orderliness, cleanliness and supplies for the assigned area; rotates within the department as required.
  • Participates in training and instruction of radiologic technology staff and students, as applicable.
  • Complies with hospital safety regulations, infection control, and department policies; adheres to attire and personal appearance guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent.
  • Current license to practice in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Current ARRT certification and mammography certification; if performing BD exams, ISCD (or ARRT) certification.
  • Compliance with MQSA, ACR and ISCD requirements (as applicable).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of caring for patients with consideration of aging processes, development and culture.
  • Minimum of two years of radiology experience, including routine bone density and mammography; two years of mammography experience is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, customer focus, initiative and reliability.
Work Environment and

Physical Requirements
  • Healthcare setting with direct patient contact and use of medical equipment.
  • May lift and position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds; ability to stand/walk intermittently throughout the day.
  • Adherence to safety procedures and PPE as applicable.
