Clinical Pharmacist Ambulatory – Brown University Health
Position SummarySupports outpatient pharmacy services, interpreting, evaluating, and dispensing medication orders. Works under the supervision of the Pharmacist‑In‑Charge, Pharmacy Supervisor, Senior Clinical Pharmacist Specialist, or Clinical Coordinator. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, appropriate, and cost‑effective medication use and oversees pharmacy technicians, interns, and ancillary support staff.
Key Responsibilities- Apply pharmacotherapeutic and pharmacokinetic principles to ensure safe, effective medication use for patient populations.
- Review patient medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, considering clinical status, drug interactions, age, and diet.
- Initiate interventions with prescribers as needed to maximize therapeutic efficacy and minimize risks.
- Provide patient education on medication use, potential side effects, and drug interactions.
- Participate in education and training of health‑care practitioners, pharmacy interns, technicians, and students.
- Execute continuous quality assessment and improvement activities and engage in total quality management initiatives.
- Perform immunizations or medication administrations in accordance with Rhode Island Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Review, approve, and enter medication orders in the computerized pharmacy system; ensure correct formulation, dosage, and patient parameters.
- Dispense medications accurately and maintain appropriate documentation and records.
- Adhere to Specialty Drug Patient Management Program policies and perform patient outreach and assessments.
- Serve as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and interns where specified.
- Earned Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited program.
- Unrestricted Rhode Island license (or valid 90‑day temporary license, with full licensure obtained within 90 days).
- Within six months of start date, acquire ACPE‑approved Immunization Certification and American Heart Association BLS Certification if duties include immunizations.
- Two to three years of progressively responsible pharmacy experience in a complex health‑care setting.
- Proficiency with pharmacy information systems, EHRs, automated dispensing technology, and personal computers.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to travel between facilities as required.
Extended periods of standing and walking, use of computer. Performs independently within department policies, referring complex problems to supervisors as needed.
Compensation$ – $ per year
Employment DetailsFull‑time, evening shift (3:00 pm–11:30 pm), 8‑hour day, located at Rhode Island Hospital – 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903. No driving required.
