SUMMARY
Reports to the Manager, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations at Rhode Island Hospital (RIH). Responsible for coordinating and supervising day‑to‑day medication preparation and distribution services and workflow processes at RIH, ensuring compliance with Rhode Island Department of Health, Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, and internal policies. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities to meet or exceed customer expectations. Participates in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and budgets for Pharmacy Services.

Coordinates and supervises day‑to‑day medication preparation and distribution services for inpatient pharmacy services; implements and interprets inpatient pharmacy policies, procedures, and standards of practice; provides oversight to preparation and repackaging of non‑sterile pharmaceutical products according to USP 795 procedures; reviews and analyzes workflow processes and recommends operational changes and new technologies to increase efficiency; reallocates resources to increase level of pharmacy services;
interviews applicants, recommends hiring, performs retention, performance enhancement, and competency assessment of staff; ensures compliance with established policies, procedures, and relevant labor contracts; participates in determining qualifications and competence of department personnel; performs clinical pharmacist duties in preparing and dispensing medication, providing drug information, and other duties as required; participates in patient‑focused pharmaceutical care services for inpatients; participates in development of short‑and long‑term goals for medication preparation and distribution services;
provides input into development of capital and operating budgets; develops and administers staffing schedules; maintains computerized systems, software programs, and specialized dispensing equipment and technologies; serves as gatekeeper for vaccine inventory and distribution; coordinates adherence to pharmacoeconomic and therapeutic monitoring programs; communicates effectively and continually with staff, management, and customers to facilitate day‑to‑day operational workflow; provides timely and accurate communication regarding medication preparation and distribution operational changes and continuous quality improvement activities;
participates in education and training of pharmacy students during IPPE and APPE rotations; participates in continuous quality improvement activities and total quality management initiatives; maintains knowledge of leading edge developments in pharmacy, therapeutics, inpatient services, programs, and innovative technology; prepares papers for presentation at professional organization meetings, submits manuscripts for publication in professional journals, and authors articles for the Pharmacy web site;
performs duties of Pharmacy Administrator‑On‑Call on an assigned basis and other administrative duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy; advanced study in pharmacy or health‑care related field such as MBA, MHA, MPH, MS, or completion of ASHP accredited PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency preferred; extensive clinical experience and development may be considered in lieu of formal training; prior to start date, possesses current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist or as a licensed 90‑day temporary pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island and obtains full licensure prior to expiration of 90‑day temporary pharmacist license.
