SUMMARYUnder the general supervision of Manager, Medical Imaging, following established policies and procedures, oversees and coordinates the work of Radiologic Technologists and support personnel in the performance of a variety of technical radiologic procedures. Provides guidance and supervision to technologist and students on imaging procedures. Assures efficient scheduling of patients and room availability; develops appropriate work schedules for staff to support anticipated needs.
Maintains appropriate inventories of medical and radiology supplies, assures operating integrity of equipment and performs clerical and administrative functions as necessary. Regularly performs all functions of a Radiologic Technologist. Maintains highest level of compliance by meeting regulatory needs of but not limited to American College of Radiology and The Joint Commission. All essential functions performed in the position reflect age specific needs of the geriatric, adult, and pediatric patients.

- Schedules work time, holidays, sick time and vacation coverage of employees within unit which provides diagnostic radiographs to physicians for use in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Provides assistance with problems, and communicates new or changed policies and procedures to unit personnel. Counsels, guides, and evaluates the performance of employees regularly assigned to the unit. May provide input on hiring or disciplinary action.
- Responsible for the efficient patient flow by scheduling patient examinations, and coordinating work assignment of employees while giving consideration to the current volume of examination orders, type of radiography required, and the availability of equipment and facilities.
- Provides for the clinical experience of radiologic Technology students, instructing and guiding students through radiological procedures in the area of responsibility. May review performance of student with instructor.
- Regularly checks radiographs performed by technologists in the unit for quality control purposes.
- Performs clerical and/or administrative tasks such as conducting inventory and ordering supplies; compiling statistics; checking equipment for proper operating condition, and arranging for repair when needed; providing input for budgetary needs.
- Assumes charge-duty responsibility during weekends in the absence of regularly scheduled supervisory personnel on a routine basis.
- Understands and practices ALARA principles of radiation Protection including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters.
- Regularly performs all functions of a Radiologic Technologist.
- Registration through the American Registry for radiologic technologists as well as two years formal training in an accredited School of radiologic Technology required.
- Current and valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island.
- Must hold a current CPR certification from AHA, BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- Ability to operate all types of radiographic and related equipment, push portable radiographic equipment, and transfer and position patients.
- Conceptual ability to determine means of providing the requested radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality based on the specifics of each case.
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress, to instruct students and employees in radiologic technique, and provides leadership to other employees.
