SUMMARYThe Physical Therapist reports directly to the Clinical Manager or Assistant Clinical Manager (ACM) of their respective department and may receive clinical guidance from senior staff and/or clinical specialists. The Physical Therapist completes comprehensive examinations of body structure to determine functional impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. The Physical Therapist establishes diagnosis and prognosis; develops an individualized plan of care; implements treatment interventions;

- Examine and evaluate patients.
- Establish diagnosis, prognosis, and individualized plans of care.
- Implement treatment intervention based on plan of care, considering precautions, indications, and contradictions.
- Direct and coordinate patients’ rehabilitation plan of care.
- Evaluate patients’ progress and revise goals and plan of care accordingly.
- Educate/Train patients/caregivers.
- Anticipate and communicate discharge/home needs and resources.
- Complete documentation and charges accurately and timely, in compliance with department policy.
- Complete clinical documentation reflecting eligibility/medical necessity of services in compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Make recommendations and referrals for additional diagnostic testing and/or services.
- Consistently apply evidence-based practice to all aspects of clinical care.
- Seek additional guidance when necessary to assure safe and effective patient care.
- Comply with hospital and departmental policies and guidelines.
- Participate in strategic departmental quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide education to other hospital departments/personnel, students, and outside agencies/schools.
- Demonstrate ability to flex schedule based on department, patient, and/or caregiver need.
- Determine priorities according to departmental and patient care need.
- Participate in community-based professional events.
- Participate in ongoing educational activities.
- Support and promote departmental teamwork.
- Complete mandatory departmental and hospital training.
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution is required.
- Master or Doctorate level degree in Physical Therapy is preferred.
- State license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health is required.
- New graduates will be considered. Clinical experience in program-specific settings is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Fit for duty in accordance with OSHA standards and program specific needs.
INDEPENDENT ACTIONPerforms independently within the department’s policies and practices.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYNo direct supervision. However, pursuant to the state of Rhode Island Rules and Regulations for Licensing Physical Therapists, a licensed physical therapist shall at all times be responsible for the supervision of physical therapist assistants, supportive personnel, and students to ensure safety and welfare of patients. Provides consistent and thorough supervision of assistants, aides, therapists, and volunteers including cosigning notes, reviewing patient treatment plans and goals.
