Job Overview
Paralegal – New England at Husch Blackwell LLP, full-service litigation & business law firm, focusing on asbestos litigation in New England.
Responsibilities- Assist attorneys with fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing/case management, and client service.
- Focus on asbestos practice: discovery, deposition preparation, investigation, trial, mediation preparation, pleadings, motions, briefs, document production databases, trial participation.
- Maintain professional demeanor, comply with firm policies, attend to detail and quality of work.
- Develop technical proficiency in database use, internet/electronic research, and file maintenance.
- Organize and manage files or delegate to Paralegal Assistants, supervise as needed.
- Attend and participate in internal CLEs.
- Supervise and mentor Paralegal Assistants.
- Anticipate attorney needs; independently handle key duties without supervision of another Paralegal.
- Meet billable hour requirement of 1,500 hours per year.
- Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field or Associate’s degree and paralegal training.
- Asbestos / Toxic litigation experience mandatory.
- Familiarity with e-filing protocols and online docket research in New England state and federal courts.
- High level of professional integrity; maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team; adapt to changing business demands.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, make sound decisions, act decisively under deadlines.
- Experience supervising direct reports, including performance evaluation, goal-setting, employee development, and problem-solving.
- Location in New England area preferred but not required for candidates with asbestos litigation experience.
