Position: ASSISTANT BUSINESS MANAGEMENT OFFICER


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
To assist a Business Management Officer or to be responsible to an administrative superior in a small state department or agency, in the supervision, control, and direction of business management services; and to do related work as required.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of a superior, receiving general and specific instructions according to work assignments. Work is usually reviewed upon completion, and occasionally during the process for conformance to instructions and policies.


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Assists in supervising non-medical staff, reviewing work performance during and after completion.

To assist a Business Management Officer or be responsible to an administrative superior in supervising, controlling, and directing business management and other non-medical services within a small state department or agency. Responsibilities include supervising clerical services, maintaining files and records related to personnel and operations, including financial records and accounts. Assists in preparing and supervising the department's or agency's budget, including procurement activities such as requisition preparation and approval, and supervising inventory control systems.

Also supervises routine maintenance and repair services, arranging for assistance with more complex maintenance issues. Reviews the effectiveness of services and staff performance, providing recommendations. Interprets policies, plans, objectives, rules, and regulations to staff and others.


KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES:
Familiarity with principles, practices, and procedures of business management as applied in small state departments or agencies; ability to supervise office staff, manage budgets, procure materials, and control inventories; interpret policies and regulations; establish effective working relationships; and other related skills and abilities.


EDUCATION:


Education:
Graduation from a recognized college with specialization in Accounting or Business Administration, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in customer service, serving government divisions with budget and operations, and utilities billing is preferred. Attention to detail and high organization level are also preferred.
